Rabat – There are 56 slum-free cities in Morocco so far, Minister of Housing Nabil Benabdallah said here on Tuesday.
During the last decade, 120,000 families settled in slum zones, he said in the House of Representatives (lower house).
Housing ministry is confronted to some difficulties related to the relocation of the targeted families as part of the “Cities without Slums” programme particularly in the cities of Salé, Casablanca, Temara and Larache, he added.
In 2004, Morocco launched the “cities without slums” programme, fashioning an urban development strategy to enable slum dwellers to have decent homes with access to water, power and sanitation.
