Casablanca – Order and security have been restored in the Ain Sbaa Youth rehabilitation Center in Casablanca, which witnessed, on Thursday, vandalism acts by inmates, said on Friday, Hassan Hmina, Regional Director for Penitentiaries and Reintegration.
The center’s different administrative departments returned to normal after the situation was brought under control, said Hmina during a press conference, underlining that several security officers were injured during the intervention to stop the mutiny and restore order and security in the facility.
“Five members of the General Delegation for Penitentiaries and Reintegration (DGAPR) were injured,” he said, noting that these acts of vandalism caused serious infrastructure damage in the center administrative departments. All prisoners are doing well except for nine inmates who were asphyxiated, he said, adding that family visits will be organized in the future for the benefit of prisoners’ families.
The official recalled that the competent judiciary authorities will open an investigation on this matter.
