Fez – The Sahara Spirit Foundation (SSF) is an ambitious foundation that aims at developing various fields in the Sahara region of Morocco, among which are: education, health care, economic growth, maintaining development, and preserving the Sahraoui heritage.
The two most prominent figures in the foundation are Mr. Kheer Yahdih, Founder, and Mr. Mohamed Dekkak, Executive President, who make great efforts to achieve the overall purposes of the Sahara Spirit Foundation.
The SSF encourages the active participation of youth in the development of the Sahara region. Therefore, many volunteers of different age categories and academic backgrounds work collaboratively to meet the aforementioned purposes. There are strong reasons for which SSF integrates volunteers into its programs. First, it helps build organizational strength as most members are aware of the importance of this foundation and believe in the purposes it intends to achieve.
Second, volunteers have credibility, discuss peer to peer or in a group, and also can promote the foundation because they believe in its principles and keep in mind that volunteering is a matter of personal choice rather than a compulsory job which gives them high motivation. Third, using volunteers extends the resources of the foundation as they provide extra hands that enable the foundation to do tasks and activities that might not otherwise get done. Volunteers also provide valuable input to foundation leaders and employees.
There are many qualities that characterize SSF volunteers. First, they demonstrate great interest in the foundation and a willingness and commitment to serving the foundation. Second, SSF volunteers are highly skilled and knowledgeable individuals with a professional reputation which makes them reliable and credible members of the foundation. Third, those members possess leadership traits and communication skills needed for their work as well as the ability to work in group settings and to be altruistic.
SSF volunteers gain from their experience in many ways such as expressing their values in activities that are meaningful, increasing their knowledge, and learning new skills through networking with other knowledgeable members. They also gain an insider’s knowledge of the foundation to grow the value of their membership and earn prestige by building relationships with new contacts and eminent figures in the Sahara Spirit Foundation.
