Rabat – On the 63rd anniversary of the revolution of the King and the people, King Mohammed VI will deliver on Saturday night a speech to the nation, says the Ministry of royal household, protocol and chancellery.
The King will chair on Sunday at the Marshan Palace in Tangiers a banquet to mark his 53rd birthday, the source added in a statement.
The Royal speech will be aired on the Moroccan and TV channels on Saturday at 9.00 p.m.
Moroccans celebrate this event every year to remember and pay tribute to the struggle led by the late King Mohammed V against the French occupation, and to martyrs who sacrificed their lives in order to free their country from colonial rule.
August 20th, 1953, marks the day the French organized a coup to overthrow the late King Mohammed V. To the dismay of the French who were bent on keeping Morocco under their tight control, this event contributed to strengthen the domestic front in the unity of Moroccans behind their legitimate King.
