Rabat – Since the beginning of the Syrian revolution in 2011, there have been a number of photographs which have truly epitomized the dire inhumane tragedy that the Syrian people are experiencing.
Every day, several heart wrenching photos spread like a wildfire on social media, in an attempt to remind the rest of the world of the extent of the agonizing plight of the Syrian people. Unfortunately, the world has not yet woken up and tried to save the Syrian people or at the very least shown sympathy towards the country.
Almost daily we see on the news photos of Syrian toddlers being tortured to death or drowning at sea. We see photos of children struggling to survive in foreign countries after they have been forced to leave their homes, escaping from the barrel bombs, the destruction and the injustice of Bashar Al Assad’s cruel regime.
We all remember the heartbreaking photo of three year-old Aylan Kurdi, which captured the attention of the whole world last year and which brought to light the tragic status of Syrian refugees, as he was pictured lying down after he was washed ashore on one of Turkey’s beaches.
On Wednesday, the touching photo of Omran Daqneesh, a five-year-old toddler symbolized the dire misery of the Syrian people after five years of war.
The photo shows dust and blood covering the face of the child, and demonstrates the failure of the United Nations and the world’s most powerful countries such as the United States to intervene in order to stop the massacre.
Daqneesh was rescued after an airstrike on Aleppo, Syria. However, the world is lifeless, so long as it is not able to take any action to save Syria.
These are the heartbreaking photos and caricatures of Syrian toddlers which epitomize the Syrian crisis.
Huda, the four-year-old Syrian girl at the Atmen refugee camp, shown here surrendering in front of a journalist. Huda could not differentiate between a weapon and a camera. She raised her hands in surrender when she thought that the photographer’s lens was a weapon.
Aylan Kurid, the three-year-old toddler drowned after he was washed up on one of Turkey’s beaches last year.
Omran Daqneesh, the five-year-old toddler sits in an ambulance after he was rescued last Wednesday from an airstrike in Aleppo, Syria.
Wherever You Go, the Shadow of Death Follows You
Khalid Albaih, a Sudanese cartoonist-activist based in Doha, Qatar drew Aylan Kurdi and Omran Daqneesh in one picture together in order to show that the Syrian toddlers are exposed to death wherever they go.
“My inspiration comes from two facts. The first one is I consider myself as a refugee [in Doha],” Albaih told Buzzfeed,”And the second fact is that my children are the same age as [Aylan Kurdi and Omran Daqneesh] and they could be in the same situation.”
Daqneesh with Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin
Another picture photoshopped by an anonymous author has gone viral on social media. It shows Daqneesh sitting on a table between US President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
The image highlights the accountability of the two counties in Syria’s carnage, in which the United States has been supporting the Syrian rebels and Russia has been supporting the Assad regime.
