Rabat – Morocco’s National Police (DGSN) denied Monday allegations published by “Diario Vasco” website, citing Spanish news agency “EFE”, on the death of an individual in a police center in Kenitra (north of Rabat) due to a sudden discomfort, saying that this kind of death is “recurring” in police centers while extracting confessions.
The DGSN denies these allegations which “undermine the achievements of Morocco in the field of human rights and the image of the services of national security.”
The DGSN said that it had already issued a statement about the circumstances of the incident in order to inform the public opinion on the death of an individual in contravention of the law, stating that a judicial investigation was opened in this regard under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office and that an autopsy would be performed to determine the actual causes of death.
The case dates back to August 30 when the elements of Kenitra police arrested a person, aged 31, in the act of possession and use of drugs. He was transported to police headquarters to take the necessary legal measures against him, the DGSN recalled.
The individual suffered a sudden discomfort at the police center and was sent to the emergency services, the same source explained.
He passed away at his transfer to the hospital and was transported to the morgue for autopsy and for the purposes of the investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
