Rabat – Salafist Hammad Kabbaj said on Sunday that Moroccan preacher Mohamed Ben Abderrahmane Al-Maghraoui is using Quranic schools to “support the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM).”
In a post on his Facebook page, Kabbaj added that there was a deal between Al-Maghraoui and PAM to re-open Marrakech’s Dar al-Quran (or in English “Quranic School”), which is supervised by the Da’wa and Sunnah Association (DSA) that is presided by Al-Maghraoui.
Kabbaj expressed his dismay at Al-Maghraoui by using “the holy Quran in an electoral contest to support a party that wants to ruin the political landscape and abort the reform project that Morocco embarked on since the amendment of new constitution in 2011.”
Kabbaj affirmed he received videos, audio clips, and pictures of Al-Maghraoui’s meeting on Sunday morning, in which Al-Maghraoui urges DSA’s board to call on people to vote for PAM.
Kabbaj added to the Facebook post an excerpt of Al-Magharoui’s audio clip, where he says,” The Quran is a blessing from God […]. This blessing requires thanking God and all people who contributed [to regain it to us]. Therefore, you and your relatives have to vote for PAM that re-opened it – if you do not, they will close it.”
Last week, Hespress reported that the issue of re-opening the Dar al-Quran stirred controversy among Moroccan preachers, since the re-opening comesin the middle of the electoral campaign of legislative elections, scheduled for October 7th.
