Rabat – King Mohammed VI will chair on Friday in Rabat the opening of the first session of the first legislative year of the tenth legislature, the Ministry of Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery announced.
On this occasion, the Sovereign will deliver a speech before the members of the Parliament’s two houses (the House of Representatives and the House of Advisors), the ministry added in a statement.
The royal speech will be broadcast on national radio and TV channels at 4:45 p.m.
The opening of the legislature comes a week after the parliamentary elections held on October 7. During the second legislative elections held after the adoption of the 2011 Constitution, the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) secured the first spot with 125 seats. It was followed by its political rival, the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) with 102 seats. The Istiqlal Party (IP) came in third position with 47 seats.
King Mohammed VI received on Monday Abelileah Benkirane, head of the PJD and entrusted him with the mission of forming a new coalition government.
