Rabat – The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is organizing a “gala match” to celebrate the 41st Anniversary of Morocco’s Green March on November 6. Festivities will take place at Sheikh Mohamed Laghdaf Stadium in Morocco’s Saharan Capital, Laayoune, with many legendary international footballers in attendance.
Former Argentine football icon Diego Armando Maradona, Liberian George Weah, Ghanaian Abedi Pele, Brazilian Rivaldo, Italian Alessandro Altobelli, were announced as attending last Saturday. Many former Moroccan footballers will also be participating.
Morocco World News reported last week that Mohamed Laghdaf Staduim is being reconstructed in preparation to host the gala match as well as the Throne Cup onNovember 18.
This year’s event follows on the heels of 2015’s inaugural gala match, organized for the 40th anniversary of Morocco’s Green March. Maradona, Egyptian footballer Mohamed Aboutrika, Morocco’s World Kickboxing Champion, Badr Hari, Brazilians Gilberto Silva and Edmilson, Morocco’s soccer palyer Mustapha Hadji. French stars Silvian Wiltord, Grégory Copé, Basile Boli, Daniel Bravo, and Jocelyn Angloma took part, guaranteeing the successful creation of a new tradition.
