Casablanca — The ANRT (National Agency of Telecommunication Regulation) has released a statement on November 4 confirming the end of the VoIP blockage, which had restricted Moroccans from using a variety of voice calling mobile applications.
“All telecommunication operators have been allowed to proceed with the restoration of all telephone services and applications over IP (VoIP) across their networks,” said the ANRT statement.
The decision to block the VoIP had initially been made in an effort to maintain profits for telecommunication companies. However, for the last several months, the question of “over the top” applications led to several discussions and debates, the ANRT statement said.
The ANRT states that the decision to end the VoIP blockage came “after a national and international evaluation was made by the ANRT concerning telecommunication markets, the context of regulations and the harmonious development of the sector with respect to the needs of users.”
The ANRT’s statement comes to the relief of many Moroccan who were limited in terms of what apps they could use and had, for a long time, condemned the ANRT’s decision to block the VoIP.
At the end of the statement, the ANRT promises to “follow these questions with great interest and ensure that users benefit of the best technological innovations, in line with the needs of the sector’s development and regulations.”
