Rabat – Head of Government and Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), Abdelilah Benkirane said, “If I fail to form a coalition to lead Morocco’s next government over the next five years, I will notify King Mohammed VI.”
Since his appointment as Head of Government by King Mohammed VI on October 10, Benkirane’s deliberations with other party leaders have not led yet to the formation of coalition government.
Speaking to the Arab newspaper, Akhbar Al Yoaoum, Benkirane said, “The on-going consultations with other parties are proving difficult.”
During his last meeting with Benkirane, Aziz Akhannounch, the recently appointed president of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), urged Benkirane “to exclude the Independence Party (IP) from the government coalition.”
Meanwhile, Benkirane dismissed Akhannouch request and stressed that the IP will be part of the coalition government he has been trying to form since his appointment by King Mohammed VI.
