Rabat – Marrakech’s renowned sites and landmarks have turned into beacons, lighting up across the city, in celebration of On the twenty-second Conference of the Parties (COP22), opening today and running until November 18.
Reminiscent of COP 21 in Paris last year, when the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe were transformed into shining aerial milestones that highlighted to the world the Paris Agreement’s commitment to climate change, Marrakech’s decidedly Moroccan twist has the city sparkling from the railway station, to the Menara, to Gueliz and the Mohammed VI Avenue
Morocco is serving the world notice that it is fully committed to addressing climate change and playing it’s part to unite the peoples of the world to act responsibly for the planet we share.
COP22, however, will not just present a beautiful face to the world. Staging such an event involves more than a facelift and, not to be outdone as host in any area, Morocco is providing a stand-by force of rescue teams. In addition, dozens of ambulances will be mobilized throughout the city aboard three helicopters endowed with medical supplies, as a precautionary security step.
Earlier this year Morocco assigned a specific group of officers to secure the safety of each dignitary and celebrity who will be in attendance. Some of those expected to participate include Leonardo DiCaprio, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bono, Akon, Maradona and Robert Redford.
