Cairo – Minister of Environment Hakima El-Haite said the COP22 will have more than 150 speakers, during press conference on climate action during the COP on Tuesday.
During the press conference Ambassador Laurence Tubiana also highlighted in details the plans for action during this week.
“What we are building is a new process, this is the first time we are doing that,” El-Haite said. “Building a real partnership between non-state actors and state actors.”
According to El-Haite, this process is only the beginning to reach the target goals of climate change, and this process involves all parties from youth, women, ministers and CEOs, etc.
El-Haite also said: “we are working on directing financial flows to be aligned with Paris agreement and sustainable development goals.”
Meanwhile, Tubiana said the importance of bringing together people from different backgrounds, for example in banking sector, and linking them with ministers, non-governmental organisations, helps every party better understand how things work on the ground from different perspectives.
The COP22 started on Monday bringing almost 200 countries to discuss action plans beyond the Paris agreement that has come into force earlier this week. Some 96 countries have already ratified the agreement.
During the opening ceremony on Monday, COP22 president and minister of foreign affairs Salaheddine Mezouar said the key areas for climate finance to be addressed during COP22 are in renewable energies, water, agriculture forests and climate adaptation.
He added that one of the major initiatives that will be focused on during COP22 would be Morocco’s Adaptation of African Agriculture “AAA”. This initiative is aims to enhance climate finance and technology solutions to small farmers across Africa.
