RAbat – French lawyer Eric Dupont Moretti said that “the trial of Morocccan singer Saad Lamjarred has not been scheduled thus far.”
Speaking to Hespress, Moretti, who was appointed by King Mohammed VI to defend the Moroccan singer, denied the rumors being circulated on social media concerning the date of Lamjarred’s hearing.
“The French court has not yet announced anything regarding the date of Lamjarred’s trial. Now, we are focusing on the trial, which will decide the course of Lamjarred’s case.”
Moretti added, “The board of Lamjarred’s lawyers, which includes myself, Brahim Rachidi, and Jean Marc Fedida is working to set a hearing date for the near future,” noting that they “requested that the court urge the 20-year-old alleged victim, Laura Prioul, to appear in court as well.”
Seeking to contextualize her refusal to face Lamjarred in court, Prioul said in a post on her Facebook account: “I am experiencing a dire psychological crisis due to the rape incident allegations” […] My lawyer has submitted a medical certificate proving my deteriorated health status.”
In sharp contradiction to this Facebook post, Arabic-language news outlet, Hespress, quoted sources earlier this week saying that Prioul “refused to appear in court because she has obligations abroad and needs to travel.”
