Rabat – Scores of mosque-goers made the decision to boycot Friday’s sermon in Fez in a show of support for Mohammed Abyat, Youssef Ibn Tachfine Mosque’s Imam, who was dismissed by the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs, on Thursday.
In an online video, which has gone viral, mosque-goers can be seen protesting the dismissal and loudly chanting religious slogans, denouncing the Ministry’s decision and saying; “Allah is sufficient for us and he is the best disposer of affairs.”
The decision to dismiss Abyat clearly sparked outrage among the mosque-goers, who refused to perform their prayer with the new Imam.
An eyewitness told Morocco World News that “there is no exact reason behind the Imam’s dismissal. The mosques-goers are divided into two groups; some of them say that “the Imam is bold and tackles audaciously his sermon’s topics. While, others say that “his sermons are very long.”
