Unlike traditional politicians he is someone who speaks his mind assertively, away from any diplomatic verbiage that statesmen regularly use with mastership. Trump seems to be very transparent in this regard. Maybe this is due to the fact that the man has never held any political office in his life. Instead, he has been a good businessman and a good merchant to use a terre-à-terre term.
The man does not believe in globalism, multiculturalism and unilateralism. The man does not believe, also, in such a thing as a free lunch. So, he is wholly against free riders: if they want American protection they have to pay for it (Gulf States,) otherwise they have to develop their own nuclear capabilities (Japan and South Korea). He does not hold NATO in high esteem, either. The man wants to coerce American companies to bring all manufacturing business abroad back to territorial America to offer the jobs to American workers first and foremost
No more free lunches
Donald J. Trump is a merchant president who wants to make of the US a big merchant company: America Inc., to make the country great again for its people, as he has promised during his campaign. Nevertheless, one wonders, quite rightly, why on earth is he taking this path and wanting to change America that spawned globalization and made out of it almost a new religion.
It is a fact that globalism has been good to many countries like South East Asia region, Bric countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and other emerging economies that, now, compete against the US, even in its own home turf. China is taking the world by a storm by its economic prowess and military might and, someday, if America does not change its course and world policies, China would overtake it and become the first world power: a communist entity leading the free world.
Besides, America is being progressively defeated by its democratic nature: opening the door for migration would soon make the country unrecognizable ethnically speaking. Being lax with rampant migration from Mexico will soon Latinize the country and affect irrevocably its culture and ethics. Donald Trump aware of the danger appealed, in no doubtful terms, to the American Anglo Saxon whites who are still a majority and won their trust to shake up the country and reorder its priorities. America will build a wall with Mexico, vet Muslim migrants and make foreign countries pay for the services it provides.
America, under Trump is going to undergo a White Revolution. The country was created by white Founding Fathers, who either signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 or who were delegates to the 1787 Constitutional Convention and took part in drafting the proposed Constitution of the United States. First it was Thirteen British Colonies which progressively became the United States of America strong and mighty and isolationist, at first, to preserve its wealth and strength.
Lisa Lerer and Julie Pace from AP argue that all important cabinet positions are held by whites:
“As Donald Trump fills out his Cabinet, it’s looking less like America’s population and more like the world Trump has always orbited: wealthy, white, male-dominated and business-minded.
Trump, who railed against what he called “politically correct crap” during his no-holds-barred presidential campaign, is on track to create the least diverse Cabinet in a quarter-century.
The uniformity is particularly striking in the president-elect’s picks for the highest-profile Cabinet and White House jobs. While he has selected a handful of women and minorities for lower-profile posts, his choices for the big four Cabinet slots — Treasury, State, Defense and Justice — and his top White House jobs — chief of staff, national security adviser and senior adviser — are all white men.”
However, in the course of its history, the US was twice pulled into wars of the making of others: WW1 and WW2 and in the last one it was even compelled, morally, to reconstruct Europe with its own money: The Marshall Plan effective June 3, 1948 (officially known as the European Recovery Program, ERP.)
America: a nation of white merchants
Now enough is enough, Trump’s America does not want to go global anymore it wants to go merchant, as if it were not merchant enough already. American brands are world brands: Apple, Boeing, Coca Cola, McDonald’s, etc., to name but a few. America is first in space, first in research, first in armament, first in education, first in arts, etc. But that is not enough it wants more and Trump, the merchant president, will undoubtedly deliver that to his people on a silver platter. He will do business worldwide and bring more wealth to his own country and with wealth comes power, of course
For that particular purpose, he is choosing his cabinet members from the corporate world. Diplomacy is going to be headed by an ex-ExxonMobil chief executive Rex Tillerson, who will roam the world selling American products and extolling their excellent qualities and he surely knows how to do that. Probably in the next 4 years American products will be certified either by the State Department or the White House. McDonald’s will probably carry the following message: certified for quality and goodness by the American Government.
McDonald’s restaurant in China
America is a subliminal culture and way of life, its products, crazes and cultural artifacts are known and appreciated worldwide. Those who cannot afford them duly replicate or pirate them. Hollywood films and shows set the world standards and dictate behaviors all over the planet.
Donald Trump, a man with business flair. He wants to keep the shop named America within strict rules and regulations. You buy a product; you pay for it on the spot. No gifts are made. A good friend is a person who does not ask for a free lunch, for there is no such thing as a free lunch on the American business scene and tradition.
Donald Trump’s shopkeeper philosophy has been highlighted by the British magazine “The economist” in the following terms:
“His approach to foreign affairs is equally crude. He would crush Islamic State and send American troops to “take the oil”. He would “Make America great again”, both militarily and economically, by being a better negotiator than all the “dummies” who represent the country today. Leave aside, for a moment, the vanity of a man who thinks that geopolitics is no harder than selling property. Ignore his constant reminders that he wrote “The Art of the Deal”, which he falsely claims is “the number-one-selling business book of all time”. Instead, pay attention to the paranoia of his worldview. “[E]very single country that does business with us” is ripping America off, he says. “The money [China] took out of the United States is the greatest theft in the history of our country.” He is referring to the fact that Americans sometimes buy Chinese products. He blames currency manipulation by Beijing, and would slap tariffs on many imported goods. He would also, in some unspecified way, rethink how America protects allies such as South Korea and Japan, because “if we step back they will protect themselves very well. Remember when Japan used to beat China routinely in wars?””
In a nutshell
Donald Trump is a true WASP; he wants to keep America white and for him white means might and might is right. He is going to get rid of 11 million illegal immigrants, presently on American soil, build a wall to stop Mexicans from pouring illegally into the US and bringing with them drugs, diseases and violent crime, but more than that he will make the Mexican government pay for this construction, to humiliate further this neighbor country. All countries big or small, allies or friends will be charged for any form of service provided to them by the US during his presidency.
This is the shopkeeper mentality at its best: America is going flagrantly merchant because the American mogul elected president believes this is the right recipe to make America great again. Will this approach work or backfire on the president and the country. Only time can show?
