Rabat – Redouane S, a 24-year-old Moroccan man, was allegedly arrested Tuesday in the regional state of Lower Saxony, in northern Germany, on suspicion of belonging to ISIS, according to the French Press Agency (AFP).
AFP reported that the suspect has a relationship with “the ringleader of the 2015 Paris attacks, Belgian-Moroccan Abdelhamid Abaaoud,” who was killed in the major January 2015 cell dismantlement and police raid.
Speaking to AFP, the federal prosecutor’s office said, “Redouane S was tasked with locating safe houses in Turkey and Greece between October 2014 and early 2015 that were used as bases ‘for the preparation of attacks.’”
The suspect was also aware of Abaaoud’s plans and preparations for an attack in the eastern Belgian city of Verviers. Even after he arrived in Germany in May 2015, he stayed in touch with Abaaoud to receive further instructions, according to the federal prosecutor’s office.
The suspect appeared in court before a judge on Wednesday, a day after his arrest.
