Rabat – On the 19th December at St Elie Greek Catholic Church, located in a Muslim neighborhood, a group of around 40 girls sang beautiful Christmas carols as they took part in the church’s Christmas festivities. Video footage of the girls singing ‘Noiseless Night’ in Arabic has gone viral.
The Imam Sadr Foundation Choir got involved in the show, composed by the Beirut Chants Festival, which arranged 23 free shows to celebrate Advent, beginning December 1st.
The Imam Sadr Foundation’s Facebook account indicated promoted the show as one of the few Christmas events they decided to take part in.
Famous Lebanese Musician Abeer Nehme accompanied the girl’s endearing performance.
40% of Lebanon’s population is Christian and the country is known as a ‘tolerant’ and ‘religiously diverse’ country. Its 1926 constitution guarantees equality between Muslim and Christian delegates in government and in highly placed workplaces. The top three positions in the ruling “troika;” the President, Speaker of Parliament and the Prime Minister must be distributed equally between Christian, Shia Muslim and Sunni Muslim applicants.
The choir’s video went viral and was widely shared on various social media platforms as many were touched by the gesture of interfaith appreciation.
