Rabat – ”Climate changes, Cadi Ayyad University acts.” This is more than just a slogan adopted by the establishment during the period coinciding with the 22ndconference of parties (Cop22).
On December 24th the Head of Cadi Ayyad University (CAU), Abdellatef Miraoui, confirmed the institution enthusiastic involvement in climate change activities, focused primarily on issues related to global warming.
Miraoui also noted that ”one of the priorities of the institution is establishing academic courses and formations which entirely concentrate on climate change issues.”
He also stressed that CAU, is endeavoring to implement a strategy of sustainable development through the completion of activities in accordance with the university’s orientations and priorities.
The institution also intends to engage students and other suitable participants in various areas of interest and all which relate to climate change and the environment in general.
Miraoui went on to emphasize that, “CAU has the ambition to be the right, highly qualified place for training competent people who are very interested in their environment, change promoters and a true source of knowledge and innovation.”
Starting with the strategy of engaging new assumptions in sustainable development at CAU’s 14 institutions, the strategy uses a five-pronged approach. Initially, it focuses on ensuring respect for all aspects related to the environment in the daily management of our community establishments.
The university will rely on the validation of research and the dissemination of acquired knowledge via a series of socio-economic activities, to be announced. In part, it will actively support and encourage the creative of innovative companies.
The second axis of the strategy is training and awareness.
Miraoui noted that, ”providing students with professional skills which will lead them to professions in the environmental field is an important aspect of this program.” He went on to add that, ”the elements that discriminate most against graduates in the labor markets are languages and so-called soft skills and these are the prior components of this strategy.”
Next comes innovation and research and development. Every means at CAU’s disposal, and in particular financial means, will be maximized in order to encourage researchers to participate more actively toward discovering solutions for a sustainable future society.
The fourth axis involves the importance of implementing an internal environmental strategy to improve the environment and reduce negative ecological impacts, notably through sustainable waste management and control of the consumption of natural resources.
The fifth and final axis of the strategy is related to the eco-campus of Tamansourt. This campus will, in fact, be created using innovative techniques for sustainable development. This was designed to become a center of interest and knowledge center.
The construction of the first branch of this project was announced by the end of the year. This strategy has been put in place to strengthen the role of UCA as a responsible and active player in this field.
