Casablanca — King Mohammed VI has officially expressed his condolences to the families of Zineb Aït Assi and Rabia El-Moustain, the two Moroccan girls who died during the Istanbul terrorist attack on Saturday, reports the Maghreb Arab Press (MAP).
The sovereign extended “his deepest condolences and sincere feelings of compassion, imploring the Almighty to have the victims in his mercy and grant their families patience and solace,” the MAP statement said.
The remains of the deceased were repatriated back to Morocco overnight. The girls’ families, along with representatives from the Foreign Affairs Ministry and Morocco’s Turkish Ambassador, waited at the airport for their arrival this morning, according to a report by Agence France Press (AFP).
King Mohammed VI had earlier this week announced he would be covering the costs of repatriation as well as all healthcare costs for the Moroccans injured during the attack.
The terrible act of terror that hit the Reina nightclub in Istanbul on Saturday killed 39 and injured more than 65 others. ISIS later claimed responsibility for the attack.
Turkish authorities confirmed on Wednesday that the identity of the gunman involved in the shooting had been established, although no further details have been released.
