Rabat – The new car market is kicking off the year with a good start. With more than 13,700 units sold, dealer-distributors achieved a growth rate of almost 22%.
According to monthly statistics published by the Association of Importers of Vehicles in Morocco (AIVAM), the sector of distributors-importers and dealers of new cars recorded a double-digit growth (21.18%) for passenger cars (VP) and 31.32% for light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
In a report published today, L’Economiste stated that the market reported 13,782 transactions last month. The passenger car market alone recorded 12,780 sales. In the utility segment, one thousand (exactly 1,002 units) of new registrations were registered. L’Economiste note that sales are rarely this high in January.
According to the AVIAM statics, the top five highest-selling car brands are Dacia, Renault, Ford, Hyundai and Peugeot, with Dacia being the market’s favorite. The low-cost car brand, subsidiary of Renault, managed to totalize 4.024 transactions, representing more than 29% of the market.
Renault, on its part, managed to sell 1.572 units, or 11.4% of the market. The two brands of the Renault Morocco Group register a total of 40.6% of the market for new cars.
These outstanding performances, reported L’Economiste, is mainly due to the many promotions and discounts marketed by the automotive giant, and especially the great sales of its two brands: Clio 4 and Megane.
Ford took 3rd place in AVIAM top5, with 1.315 units sold, marking 9.54% of the market’s sales. With 875 sold units, Hyundai came in fourth, registering a sales decline of -19.28% in comparison to last year with only 6.35% of the market sales this January. Fifth place went to Peugeot with 824 cars sold. The French brand starts 2017 with 3% growth and nearly 6% market share, concluded the newspaper.
