New York – Russia’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin, died on Monday morning at his office in New York.
According to UN sources, the seasoned Russian diplomat was at his office when he suffered a heart attack at around 9.30 am.
The 64-year-old diplomat served as his country’s permanent representative to the United Nations since 2010.
He was regarded as the dean of diplomats of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, namely, Russia, the United States, France, the United Kingdom and China.
He was known for his outspokenness and his cordial relationship with the press accredited to the United Nations.
