Rabat – The air traffic has increased by 8.61% in the first month of 2017, according the latest statistics released by the National Airports Authority (ONDA).
The statistics show that this January saw a total of 1,446,883 passengers traveling within Morocco’s airports, an increase of 8.61% compared to the same period in 2016.
Morocco’s airports have marked a double-digit growth during January. Al Hoceima’s airport noted an increase of 392 (82%) corresponding to 3,361 passengers.
At Ouarzazate Airport, there was an increase of 27.18%, corresponding to 4,132 more passengers. Tangier’s Ibn Battouta Airport noted a rise of 23.45% (70,885 passengers), in addition to Marrakech-Menara airport, which increased by 10.03% (302,482 passengers).
Casablanca’s Mohammed V airport marked an increase of 5.95%, corresponding to 698,834 passengers. Thus, the airports achieved an increase of 7.99%, for a total of 1,432,227 passengers.
Regarding the airspace traffic in January, the number increased by 1.12%, corresponding to + 72 320 recorded flights in contrast 48,118 during the same period of 2016.
The statistics also show growth in international markets. In Europe, which represents 68% of global air traffic, the ONDA noted an increase of 8.41% (983,776 passengers). While in Africa, it reached 3.61% (118,286 passengers).
In January 2017, the ONDA said that Europe accounted for 68.87% of Morocco’s air traffic in 2016, noting that this destination experienced growth in visitors, since the number of passengers passing through Moroccan and European airports reached 12,560,661, while the total number of passengers passing through Moroccan airports increased by 18,237,272.
