Casablanca – Tourists in the city of Agadir are expressing an interest in participating in a protest organized by a civic initiative called Save the City of Agadir, set to take place on February 26.
The protest, scheduled Sunday, will denounce the recession and negligence the city has recently suffered.
Organizers published a video of French tourists who expressed their willingness to participate in the protest. They think the city deserves better handling, considering its natural beauty and cultural richness.
In the video, posted on the official social media fan page for the movement on, tourists state that they are impressed with the “generosity” of the locals, and the “delicious food” that the city’s restaurants offer. The tourists also called upon Agadir’s citizens to respond to the initiative and participate in the protest to draw the full attention of officials to the city.
Following the response the initiative has attracted, Zineb Al-Adaoui, the city’s Mayor and Ouali, summoned the organizers of the initiative to a meeting that lasted for more than three hours.
Organizers presented a letter of notice regarding the upcoming protest and statement outlining their objectives. These include defending the concerns of the city and supporting the issues involved in the development of Agadir and the surrounding region as a whole.
During their meeting with Al-Adaoui, the organizers vowed to provide every organizational guarantee to ensure the event takes place in proper circumstances and in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, pertaining to freedom of expression and peaceful demonstrations. Organizers also called upon the authorities in the city to protect the protestors and the security of public and private properties.
In answer to the organizers, Al-Adaoui outlined a number of projects under construction in the city of Agadir and gave her instructions to local authorities to ensure a peaceful demonstration.
