Rabat – The newly appointed Head of Government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, who has announced the beginning of a new round of consultations with all the parties, has only two weeks to form a coalition government.
After having been appointed as the new Head of Government, Saad-Eddine El Othmani announced he would begin his mission to form a coalition government right away.
El Othmani has been given only two weeks to complete this mission. The short time limit given is due to the unsuccessful negotiations to form the government undertaken by El Othmani’s predecessor, Abdelilah Benkirane, which lasted more than five months.
After an extraordinary session of the National Council of the Justice and Development Party convened on Saturday, Saad-Eddine El Othmani stated that the next round of consultations to form a majority government would include all the parties.
“The start of the consultations to form a government will begin by holding meetings with all political parties represented in parliament, respectively, according to the results of the recent legislative elections,” he told reporters on Saturday.
During the party’s extraordinary session, the members of the General Secretariat of the Justice and Development Party expressed their opposition to including the Socialist Union for Popular Forces (USFP). This represents another difficulty facing the new Head of Government, in addition to his tight time constraints.
The next round of the consultations, as announced by El Othmani, will be with the general secretariats of all the parties. He will start with the parties that received the biggest number of votes in the last elections.
