Rabat – A Kuwaiti woman filmed her imperiled Ethiopian housemaid, watching as she pled for help, clinging to the outside edge of a window. She continued filming even as the woman plummeted from the seventh floor.
The video caused an instant uproar in many Arab countries.
Arab social media users denounced the apparent inhumanity of a Kuwaiti woman who filmed her Ethiopian maid as she screamed and begged for help before falling from a seventh floor window onto an iron roof. The Kuwaiti woman was close enough to the edge where she could have helped her housemaid. Instead of offering assistance, however, she preferred to continue filming.
In the twelve-second video, the Kuwaiti woman was apparently less than a meter away from her housemaid. She is heard telling her “come here, you crazy!” while the maid implored “catch me, catch me please.” Her grip then loosened and she fell. Fortunately, the maid did not die and is seen in another video on Twitter going down a ladder on foot right after the incident.
The video documenting the fall of the Ethiopian housemaid has gone viral on social media since its release on Thursday and Arab users have denounced the Kuwaiti woman’s unwillingness to save her maid’s life.
The hashtag, #FalloftheEthiopian, has swept across Twitter and users have expressed their shock at the incident. One user stated, “The maid clearly asked for help but the lady cold heartedly called her crazy.” Another commented “The Ethiopian maid did not fall, but the humanity and dignity of that other woman fell.”
