Rabat – The city of Fes will host the 2nd annual of Symposium Terroir, which will take place on April 8 at Palais Medina and the SPA hotel.
The symposium will provide attendees with the opportunity to voice their opinion concerning local development over climate changes. As well, it will highlight and raise awareness of the importance of local products, research projects and innovation for biodiversity and preservation.
The second edition will be organized by SOS Maroc, in coordination with Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and in the presence of FAO’s Morocco representative, Michael Georges Hage.
In a press release for the event, organizers said “For this great initiative in line with COP22, SOS Maroc Terroir has been committed for more than two years with the aim of valorizing its products by the most adapted and, above all, the most concrete and lasting means for a better results.”
Considered a pioneer in production, the region of Fes-Meknes produces about 70% of all the agricultural products in the Morocco. These include honey, saffron, olive oil, aromatic plans, almonds and fruits in addition to the production of other food items.
“Eco-sensitive production methods are more important than ever,” said American lawyer and law professor Elisabeth Myers, a speaker at Saturday’s Symposium. “Morocco’s Plan Maroc Vert is not only a response to environmental issues and climate change, but it recognizes the importance of the small farmer and producer of agricultural products as a significant factor in the equation. It is also important for entrepreneurship, women’s economic empowerment, and job creation.”
The symposium is intended to give an overview of the role of the products with respect to the reduction of greenhouse gases and the stabilization of local populations to adapt to climate change.
