Swedish Security Police have reported that the Swedish parliament and the subway system have been placed on lockdown indefinitely.
Police are on location, tending to the injured. They cannot, however, provide further details as to the number of injured or the nature of their injuries. Police are encouraging people to remain where they are and avoid the city centre for the time being.
Swedish Police spokesman Lars Vilstrom told CNN that “Some kind of vehicle has been driven into a street full of pedestrians. We have a lot of police officers on the scene. We don’t have numbers yet.”
Spokesman for Prime Minister, Stefan Lofven, has announced that the PM has been informed and is currently making his way to the capital from the west.
At approximately 2:55 p.m., information made its way to Swedish Security Services of a truck appearing to deliberately drive into a crowd on Drottninggatan in Stockholm. All that is known at this time is that two people have perished and a large number are injured.
An intense investigation is now underway to determine the identity of the driver and whether or not he acted alone.
