Rabat – A Turkish Airline jet arrived at its destination with an unexpected passenger, after the cabin crew helped deliver a baby at 42000 feet.
NafiDiaby, who was in her 28th week of pregnancy, felt the onset of labor right after the plane took off from Conakry, Guinea to Istanbul.
The cabin crew and passengers joined forces to assistDiabyin the deliver a healthy baby girl, who was named Kadiju.
Bouthayna Inanir, one of the flight attendants who helped with the birth, said: “The mother gave birth while standing, and we received help from several other passengers.”
Baby Kadiju stole the limelight right after her birth. Each memberof the cabin crew, including the captain, took turns posing for pictures with new born Kadiju in their arms.
Once the plane landed, mother and baby were immediately picked up by an ambulance and taken to a hospital to be examined by doctors. Both are reported to be in good shape.
Kadiju’s nationality could be an interesting point of public debate. It’s not clear whether she’ll adopt her mother’s nationality or be registered as Turkish because she was born in Turkish airspace.
While the United Nations deems the baby should be classified as Turkish, the final decision depends on Turkey’s Nationality laws.
