Rabat – Asma Lmanawar opened up on her meeting with King Mohammed VI, her positions on Saad Lamjarred case, and her take on Othmani’s government in an interview with the news magazine Telquel.
The singer of “Safi” and “Hakawa” talked about being awarded the Wissam by King Mohammed VI in 2014.
“The King congratulated me and told me, ‘What you are doing is good, keep making Moroccan music brilliant’,” said Lamnawar, adding “As the King was about to give me the Wissam he told me, ‘I am afraid to harm your pretty caftan’.”
“All the world’s caftans will never worth such royal attention,” said Lamanwar, adding that the Wissam was one of the best gifts that she had received ever.
“Don’t judge Lamjarred”
Asked about Saad Lamjarred and the recent accusations made against him of sexual assault, Lamnawar expressed her astonishment toward the “ongoing hysteria on social media about this case.”
“Lamjarred is a friend and a brother. We’ve shared a lot of wonderful memories together. I stick to the presumption of innocence and I am seriously wondering how could we judge a person while the case is under examination!”
“I respect Othmani”
After the appointment of Saad Eddine Othmani as the new Head of Government, Lamnawar congratulated him on his Twitter account, which led Telquel to ask her about her position on the current government coalition.
“I am not into politics…but I follow Saad Eddine Othmani on Twitter,” she said. “I was happy when he replied to my congratulations, despite his overbooked agenda.”
“Othmani is psychologist and an intellectual that I respect. I try to follow what’s going on in Morocco currently, but I can’t really understand every thing. Each one has his own field. I keep my opinion for me.”
Recently Asmaa Lamnawar created a buzz on social Media with her latest single “Andou Zine” which, released April 7, has already ranked among top Arab songs recently.
