Rabat – Many have predicted for Hakim Ziyech a bright future with the national Moroccan football squad.
Such a talented young playmaker would have been of great help to “Atlas Lions”, who have been struggling for years to perform better and regain some pride.
Moroccan team actually did so during the last African Cup of Nations when it reached the quarter finals for the first time in 13 years. But they just did so without Ziyech.
The Ajax Amsterdam midfielder has been on fire lately, giving great performances with the Dutch club. But for some reason, he has been kept out of the national squad for some time.
Ziyech is certainly the biggest Dutch football talent of Moroccan origins in the last few years.
A playmaker with a talent similar to those great footballers who provide their teammates with important assists, thus, creating golden opportunities for them to score goals, the young star would have been major asset to the Moroccan team.
This season he created more chances than any other player in Eredivisie (Dutch Football League), with 106 chances. His nearest challenger is PSV Eindhoven’s Davy Propper, who created only 67 chances.
Yet, after several national games with the team, Ziyech has been snubbed by Hervé Renard, Morocco’s national team coach, who favored the more experienced Mbark Boussoufa over the younger Amsterdam midfielder.
Being excluded from the squad he preferred over the Dutch national team left a bitter taste in Ziyech’s mouth, prompting him to say he would not play for Morocco again as long as Hervé Renard remains coach.
Despite being snubbed by the French manager, Hakim Ziyech is being courted by European football clubs, especially in England.
According to hitc.com , several English clubs such as Swansea City, Newcastle and Southampton all expressed interest in the young Moroccan player.
Moving to the English Premier League will be a greater opportunity for the Moroccan to showcase his talent.
Giving more outstanding performance will certainly be hailed by Moroccan fans who like to celebrate one of their own. On the other hand, it will be bittersweet for all those wishing to see Hakim Ziyech perform even better with the Moroccan national team.
