Rabat – Mohamed Najib Boulif, Secretary of State to the Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, has apologized following his Facebook post last Tuesday, in which he criticized the media and the public for ignoring the Islamic event of Isra and Mi’raj and talking instead about Mi Aicha, the elderly woman who attempted to commit suicide by climbing up an electricity pole in Rabat.
Following the spread of videos and photos on social media showing Mi Aicha climbing an electricity pole to protest the humiliation she experienced after her land was seized, Boulif took to his Facebook to criticize that Moroccans should focus on Isra and Mi’raj instead of standing in solidarity with the desperate woman.
As soon as he shared his post, Boulif found himself in the center of a storm of criticism. He has recently taken to Facebook to express his apologies.
“For those who saw what I wrote about Mi Aisha… I apologize to her […] Not for those who referred the topic to another one,” Boulif said. “I did not mean to underestimate her or intend to do that. She is old, with will and pride.”
Boulif continued apologizing to Mi Aicha, adding, “Seeing her picture, hanging in an electricity pole, prompting the raising of many questions. I apologize, Mi Aicha – May God help you to overcome your sadness. It’s good that some interpretation of my post allowed me to address you – to apologize.”
Boulif added that his intention was to tackle the topic of Isra and Mi’raj, “but unfortunately my post was misinterpreted.”
