Casablanca – The Wali of the Tangier-Tetouane-Al Hoceima region, Mohamed Yaakoubi has said that portraying the city of Hoceima as a city “on fire” works to undermine major development projects in the region. Yaakoubi made the statement on May 11.
Mohamed Yaakoubi added that portraying the northern city of Hoceima on social media as a city “on fire” is quite misleading, and “a pure brainwashing” aimed at undermining the massive development projects the state has undertaken in recent years.
“There are indeed demonstrations in Al Hoceima as in other cities of the Kingdom and in all democratic countries, but the participants in this agitation try to give a false image of the city that suits the specific agenda of the promoters,” said Yaakoubi. He added that the city “functions properly and its inhabitants run their affairs casually and the institutions operate normally.”
“One of the most striking aspects of this constant propaganda is the famous decree of 1958, which defined Al Hoceima as a military zone. This dahir is no longer in force since 1959,” said Yaakoubi.
He denounced the nihilism of the leaders of the movement, saying “This is pure dishonesty to quote the decree while ignoring the succession of approved texts which are followed to cancel the military character for the area of ??Al Hoceima.”
Yaakoubi added that the dishonesty of these leaders continues as they have inscribed on their demands file actions and projects already programmed within the framework of the plan launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2015.
The official also pointed out that the leaders of the city’s uprising have resorted to social media to achieve what they could not achieve on the ground, for the purpose of pleasing their funders.
“They can not deny the reality on the ground in connection with all the projects carried out or underway since 2015 thanks to the high concern of His Majesty King Mohammed VI,” asserted Yaakoubi.
