Rabat – The Alif Riad in Fes will showcase the drawings of British artist Noel Bensted, May 14 to 26.
Entitled “Fez and Morocco: Out of the Shadows”, the exhibition aims at showcasing the artist’s experiences in Morocco, especially in the “spiritual capital” of Fes, over the past four years.
Bensted said that the exhibition, drawings of different buildings and monuments of the 1200-year-old city, came from his awe at Fes’ unique architecture.
”To arrive in this city in December of 2012, seeking light and calm, away from the gloom of London, I was enchanted,” explained Bensted.
The artist also stressed that he had never experienced anything like what he felt about old Fes during his stay in Morocco.
“Here was a city and way of life that had echoes stretching back to antiquity through the Arab Golden ages,” he added.
The painter and draughtsman usually takes inspiration from life, attempting to capture vitality of cities and people While Bensted says this is challenging, he finds it very important, helping him improve his painting skills.
