Rabat – Ilayas El Omari, the Secretary General of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), has called on the population of Al Hoceima to calm down.
El Omari’s call comes following the government coalition’s allegations on Sunday, accusing protesters of advocating for separatism. Protesters responded by calling for massive demonstrations on Thursday.
The PAM leader, who also serves as president of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, reiterated his call for dialogue between the government and protesters.
The Al Hoceima native posted on Facebook on Tuesday saying he was doing his best to promote dialogue, within the scope of his responsibilities.
“I have always called for collective work, without any heroic pretenses or attempts at political instrumentalization, from any party,” he wrote.
In his post, El Omari stood in the middle, not accusing demonstrators on the government of being responsible for the failure of dialogue.
“Dialogue efforts in which the government and elected representatives took part resulted in speeding up the execution of ‘Al Hoceima, Manarat Al Moutawasit’ project. Other investment agreements were signed too,” wrote El Omari, adding that “the government met some of the population’s demands to facilitate access to jobs in the region to guarantee equality of chances.”
He went on to say that his previous call for dialogue was positively received by some but was met with rejection by others.
