Rabat – On the 4th day of Mawazine Festival 2017, superstar Lauryn Hill came to set fire to the stage in an incredible show.
For over an hour, the singer of the mythical group The Fugees got the crowd to sing along with her the sounds of the best hip-hop tunes of the 1990s.
The singer, who didn’t hold a press conference nor grant interviews before her concert, arrived with a little delay to the stage. Scheduled at 8:45 pm, the concert started around 9:45 pm, after a first part played by a DJ.
Hill however made up for this delay, delivering one of the best concerts this year. Wearing an XXL polka shirt, high waisted pants held by a huge Gucci belt with pearls, tarbouch on her head and huge glasses, the singer looked straight out of the 80s.
The superstar interpreted some of her world award-winning albums, namely “Ms. Hill” and MTV Unplugged 2.0, through which she sang away her political and religious convictions. The hysterical crowd enjoyed her reggae and soul-influenced tunes, dancing under their light and bright rythmes.
Hill celebrated the 90s hip-hop songs with the legendary band The Fugees. Their album “The Score,” released in 1996, has been ranked by Rolling Stone and The Source as one of the best albums of all time.
Between music and singing, language was not an obstacle in front of the public, who fell in love with the artist’s voice and authentic lyrics. But it’s especially Hill’s reinterpretation of “Killing Me Softly” and “Ooh La La La”, two of the band’s best-known songs, which eventually conquered the crowd.
By inviting the superstar Lauryn Hill on the scene of the OLM, Mawazine made of its fourth day yet another special day for music lovers.
The artist, whose solo “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, delivered an unforgettable show with a repertoire mixing her biggest hits and more spiritual compositions.
