Rabat – Back in 1984, Donald J. Trump was holding pretty much the same discourse he has been propagating since he decided, two years ago, to run for president of the United States.
During an interview with TV star Oprah Winfrey, Trump said he was sick of seeing the US unable to redress trade deficit with Japan, and talked of the wealth of Gulf countries, saying they were not paying the US what it deserved.
“We make it possible for them to sell their oil. Yet, they are not paying us 25? of what they are making. It’s a joke”, he said.
When Oprah told him he sounded like someone running for presidency, asking him if he would ever make such a bid, trump responded he did not have the inclination to do so, yet he maintained he had every chance of winning.
“I think I would win. I wouldn’t go in to lose. I have never gone into losing my life”, he said confidently.
Surprisingly enough, the prophecy came true. Trump is now president, but will he be able to keep his campaign promises, which were pretty much similar to his discourse 33 years ago? That’s the question.
