Rabat - Casablanca's Court of Appeal on Tuesday sentenced Moroccan judge, Rachid Machkaka, to one year in prison for receiving a bribe in May.
Machkaka was caught red-handed taking a bribe inside Rabat’s Court of Appeal on May 24.
The trial to sentence him was held in a secret session by the court and his position as a judge is still being questioned by the court’s Disciplinary Board.
After someone filed a complaint against Machkaka, the Ministry of Justice and its inspectors decided to lay a successful trap that led to the judge’s arrest. This was followed by a long investigation in the court.
An investigating judge in Rabat’s Court of Appeal released the defendant, but his case was later referred to Casablanca’s Court of Appeal, and it was here that the new judge ordered his re-arrest. His sentence was made after two hearing sessions.
