Rabat – Silya Ziani, one of the key members of Hirakprotest movement in the Rif, might be granted provisional liberty, her lawyer has said.
On Wednesday, the young female activist appeared before the investigating judge in Casablanca.
Her lawyer, Khadija Rougani, told TelQuel that her client has good chances of being granted provisional liberty.
“The law gives her this right,” said Rougani. “Also, she clearly has nothing to do with what she is being accused of.”
The young activist is prosecuted for “participating in unauthorized protests” and “insult to public law enforcement agents.”
Silya was arrested in June while traveling to Casablanca to visit her fellow detained activists.
Along with Nasser Zafzafi and Nabil Ahmjik, Silya was considered a key member of Hirak.
News of her suffering a breakdown during her detention prompted supporters of the protest movement to organize demonstrations in Casablanca and Rabat to call for her release.
“We are still waiting for her to be released,” Silya’s father told TelQuel. [Her] lawyers say there is hope.”
According to Alyaoum24, the investigating judge met with Silya’s father following interrogation with her and urged him “not to show weakness in front of her.”
