Rabat - The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.3 percent during June 2017, compared with the previous month, with the biggest increases in food products recorded in Casablanca and Al Hoceima, according to a report by the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

The consumer price index rose by 0.3 percent in June compared with the previous month due toa 0.6 percent increase in the food index and stagnation of the non-food index.
The rise in food products observed between May and June 2017 mainly concerned fish and seafood products, which increased by 7.8 percent, vegetables with a rise of 2.4 percent, meats with a 1percent increase, and oils and fats with 0.6 percent rise.
On the other hand, prices of fruits fell by 3.5 percent, while prices of coffee, tea, and cocoa dropped by 0.6 percent, according to HCP.
The largest increases in CPI were recorded in Casablanca with an increase of 0.9 percent, A lHoceima with 0.8 percent, Tangier and Laayoune with 0.6 percent, and Oujda with 0.5 percent.
Cities that recorded a decrease of CPI included Beni-Mellal with 0.6 percent decrease, Rabat with 0.3 percent, and Agadir with 0.1 percent, indicated the report.
Compared to the same month of the previous year, the consumer price index rose by 0.3 percentin June 2017.The HCP said this was due to a 1 percent increase in the non-food items index, with variations ranging from a decrease of 0.2 percent in “communication” to a 3.2 percent increase in “restaurants and hotels,” while food products recorded a decrease of 0.7 percent, concluded the report.
