Rabat – Video of a Saudi Prince driving a solid gold Ferrari is making the rounds on social media.
Prince Khalid bin Saud turned heads in Nice, France, as he exited a building and climbed back into his gleaming vehicle Tuesday.
Clearly impressed with the display of wealth, impossible to miss in the sunlight, bystanders gathered around taking pictures and video. Smiling and talking to some of the passersby, the prince appeared pleased at the attention the vehicle was garnering.
The Facebook poster, Mustapha Hasnaoui, however, chose to point out what he saw as an obvious cultural difference between the east and the west, saying that western “artists and inventors” are more likely to donate considerable sums of their personal wealth to charity. “They donate everything they have to the poor and the world’s patients… and an example of that Facebook owner who left himself little… and many like him.”
By contrast, according to Hasnaoui, eastern culture appears to embrace the open display of wealth, flaunting it when, from his point of view, it could be donated to alleviate the suffering of less fortunate people. “ It does not see a flaw because our value system is based on the concept of a livelihood that is different from one slave to the most merciful (Allah simplifies the sustenance to whomever he wills and appreciates).”
