Rabat – The national police agency announced on Wednesday that the victim of a sexual assault on a city bus in Casablanca, which was committed and filmed by a group of teenagers, has been located.
The woman’s whereabouts were still unknown when police arrested six suspects on Monday after opening an investigation into the incident.
The woman was found on Tuesday according to a communiqué by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
Unlike the previous information provided by the DGSN, which stated that the victim was 24, Wednesday’s communiqué revealed that she is aged 26 and is originally from Salé.
The release added that the victim used to receive treatment for mental health problems and that her family had been looking for her after she went missing.
DGSN added that the Casablanca police prefecture is pursuing an investigation into the case.
The six teenage suspects, aged between 15 and 17, are due to be referred to the Crown Prosecutor when the investigations are completed.
The documented rape case made the headlines in Morocco and elsewhere. A public debate ensued about the causes of the seemingly growing incidents of sexual assault and juvenile criminality in Morocco.
