Rabat – Casablanca is the 13th most dangerous city in Africa, according to the 2017 Crime Index published recently by Numbeo, an online database of user contributed data about cities and countries worldwide.
Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco, is the second most dangerous North African city, behind Cairo, Egypt.
For the entire continent, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa ranks on top.
According to the Numbeo ranking, safety while walking alone at night in Casablanca is “low,” and the city also has“ high level corruption and bribery.”
Generally speaking, the crime index of the Moroccan city is 53.24 percent, while the safety index is 46.76 percent.
To create Numbeo’s ranking for criminality, the internet users take also into account car theft, drug use, and corruption. The mid-2017 ranking is based on perceptions of visitors of the website overthe past three years, said Numbeo.
Last September, the website ranked Casablanca the sixth city in terms on its 2016 Global Pollution Index , with a level of contamination that had reached 94.81 percent.
