Rabat - Driss El Yazami, president of the National Council of Human Rights (CNDH), was elected on Sunday in Abidjan as the first vice-president of the Francophone Association of National Human Rights Commissions (AFCNDH).
Rabat – Driss El Yazami, president of the National Council of Human Rights (CNDH), was elected on Sunday in Abidjan as the first vice-president of the Francophone Association of National Human Rights Commissions (AFCNDH).
The news was confirmed by a source within the CNDH. The AFCNDH office will include Khalid Ikhiri (Niger) as president and Hedouville Renan (Haiti) as second vice-president.
Forst Michel from France was elected as new secretary general, while Allilou Sam-dja Cisse from Togo was elected as the new treasurer.
The Francophone Association of National Human Rights Commissions (AFCNDH), over which the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) presided on November 25 and 26 n Abidjan, holding its sixth congress under the theme “the role of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) in promoting and protecting the rights of migrants.”
This congress was organized in partnership with the International Organization of the Francophonie (OIF) and the National Commission for Human Rights of Côte d’Ivoire with the support of the airline Royal Air Maroc as the official transporter of the event.
Born in Fez, El Yazami was appointed by King Mohammed VI in March 2011 to chair CNDH. He is a graduate of the Paris-based Centre de formation et de perfectionnement des journalists. He was also a member of the Advisory Council of Human Rights (CCDH), the Equity and Reconciliation Commission, and the board of the Three Cultures Foundation (Spain).
He also served as former vice-president of the French League of Human Rights (LDH) and former secretary general of the International Federation of Human Rights (FIDH).
