“You do not have the right to hit me and choke me like that,” said Emily Weinman after she was roughly assaulted while she was resting in the company of her husband, daughter, and friend. To celebrate the American holiday Memorial Day, they had brought alcohol, but they had not drunk any yet when the police arrived and asked her to breathe in a Breathalyzer, which turned out to be negative.
“I asked them if they had anything better to do than prevent people from drinking on the beach,” she said in a Facebook post. Emily Weinman said the police then asked her for her ID. She refused to give it to them. “At that moment, he told me that if I did not give it to him, he would stop me,” she added.
Wildwood police gave a different version of the incident. City Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. spoke of “shame” after the incident but also said the police had a video of Emily Weinman spitting at police officers and insulting them.
