The race brought more than 600 people together to run 42.2 kilometers.
Rabat – Moroccan runner Jawad Kallouz won the 5th International Marathon of Fez on Sunday, January 13, finishing the 42-kilometer-long race in a record time of 2:15:32.
Fellow runners Khalil Lamciyeh and Mohamed Chaaboud finished 2nd and 3rd, with respective times of 2:17:26 and 2:18:28.
In the women’s competition, Moroccan Naima El Ayadi finished first in 3:10:58, followed by compatriot Hayat Ahammich (3:13:16). America’s Laura Bergmann (3:24:27) finished third.
A number of more than 600 people representing 20 different countries came together to run the marathon and become part of Fez’s notable running tradition.
Cutting into the heart of Fez and winding itself around the city’s borders, the route of the marathon starts at Avenue du Prince Heritier. Marathon staff provided the runners with refreshments every 5 kilometers.
The event also included a half-marathon (21 kilometers) and a 10-kilometer race.
Elite Running Club Association organizes the annual sports event in collaboration with local authorities in Fez under the supervision of the Moroccan Royal Athletics Federation (FRMA).
Taher Belkorchi won the 2019 marathon, finishing the race in 02:18:59.
