Frequent flyers with RAM should expect to enjoy greater benefits following the airline’s induction into the Oneworld alliance.
Rabat – Oneworld has confirmed that Royal Air Maroc (RAM) will become the first African member of the global airline alliance beginning on April 1, 2020.
RAM is the Moroccan national carrier and the kingdom’s largest airline, serving 7.5 million passengers on a fleet of 60 aircraft in 2019.
As the newest member of Oneworld, RAM will add 39 new destinations in 23 countries to the alliance’s network. RAM’s subsidiary Royal Air Maroc Express will join the alliance as an affiliate.
Beginning in April, Oneworld frequent flyers using RAM will be able to enjoy the full range of Oneworld benefits. Members of RAM’s Safar Flyer loyalty program will have access to rewards on all Oneworld member airlines.
RAM will soon offer a top tier level Safar Flyer Platinum loyalty program. Members will be able to enjoy access to First and Business Class lounges, First Class priority check-in, priority boarding, and fast track at select security lanes.
In March, RAM will hold a ceremony in Marrakech to celebrate the development.
What is Oneworld?
Oneworld is an airline alliance that aims to be the first choice for the world’s frequent international travelers.
The alliance offers smoother transfers for passengers traveling across all member airlines, a greater range of frequent-flyer rewards, access to more airport lounges, and more codeshare agreements between member airlines.
The alliance currently consists of 13 member airlines and 30 affiliates, operates a fleet of more than 3,400 aircraft, and serves about 1,000 airports in more than 158 countries.
Oneworld’s member airlines served 527.9 million passengers in 2017, generating an annual revenue of more than $130 billion.
Oneworld announced Royal Air Maroc as a member-elect on December 5, 2018. RAM subsequently entered a 15-month implementation program to integrate the airline into the alliance.
RAM’s codeshare agreement with American Airlines, a founding member of of the Oneworld alliance, is part of the airline’s induction into the group. The agreement entered into force on December 26, 2019.
RAM is set to enter a five-year growth plan that will increase the airline’s fleet significantly as it extends the reach of its network from 94 destinations to 121.
