Rabat – As the Chinese Embassy in Rabat celebrated the 100-year anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), China’s Ambassador to Morocco, Li Changlin, used the opportunity to reiterate the close ties between Beijing and Rabat.
“Political relations between China and Morocco are excellent,” the ambassador said at the centenary celebration on June 30 — though the official anniversary date of the party falls on July 1. On the occasion, Changlin underlined that China and Morocco share “a common approach” on a variety of issues.
Both countries “advocate multilateralism and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of third countries,” the diplomat said, adding that both “are very attached to national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the right to development.”
The two countries’ joint history goes back to 1958 when Morocco became the second African country to recognize the People’s Republic of China. Rabat’s and Beijing’s growing ties can be traced back to the early 2000s — when several Chinese developmental projects were launched in Morocco — and to 2016 when Morocco’s King Mohammed VI paid an official visit to China.

According to the ambassador, King Mohammed VI’s visit gave the two countries’ bilateral relations “a strong impetus” for further cooperation.
Changlin highlighted the fact that the two countries’ “relations are at a good level,” adding his enthusiasm for further developing the partnership, particularly the business ties that stem from manufacturing and investment.
A variety of Moroccan officials and public figures attended the celebration which was held at the Chinese embassy in Rabat. The embassy also played host to “The Communist Party of China, 100 years of history” traveling exhibition.
Giving further momentum to the two countries’ economic ties, the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) organized and hosted the Morocco-China Business Council Forum, which opened in Agadir on June 28.
