The Moroccan Society of cardiology (SMC) warned against participating in sports when suffering from COVID-19 symptoms.

The SMC reported in a statement today that incorrect information is being shared on social networks to promote sports among people infected with the virus.

“This is the reason why the Moroccan Association of Cardiology launched an appeal to citizens about the cardiovascular risks incurred in this period of viral epidemic that we are going through,” the statement said.

The press release warned against participating in sport activities while experiencing any fever or other Covid-related symptoms.

The association said that the virus can spread to the heart muscle, causing an inflammation called myocarditis with the risk of arrhythmias and sudden death during sports practice.

The warning came amid an alarming increase in the number of COVID-19 cases across Morocco.

Death toll also jumped to 9,885 after 52 people died due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Number of total COVID-19 cases also reached 633,923, including 569,452 recoveries.

With the alarming increase in both deaths and cases, the Ministry of Health has been urging people to take part in the vaccination campaign to achieve herd immunity.

Morocco has fully vaccinated 10,283,660 people as of August 2.

The number of people who received the first dose of the vaccine reached 1, 973,650
