Rabat – Morocco’s kickboxing star Jamal Ben Saddik will fight against Dutch heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven on October 23.
The fight, which was initially scheduled for January 2022, is part of a new Glory competition featuring several kickboxing champions.
The date was brought forward as Rico’s initial opponent withdrew from the October 23 event due to an “undisclosed injury,” Fight Mag reported.
Ben Saddik was to face Benjamin Adegbuyi, the Romanian kickboxer who defeated Moroccan champion Badr Hari in a Glory competition last year.
Since Ben Saddik will now face Verhoeven, Adegbuyi will face off with Antonio Plazibat.
Verhoeven and Ben Saddik know each other pretty well as they have fought twice and appear to have followed each other’s career.
Ben Saddik won the pair’s first fight 10 years ago. In 2017, however, Verhoeven won his rematch against the Moroccan.
With Verhoeven looking in shape and confident after defeating Badr Hari twice in 2016 and 2019, it remains to be seen whether Ben Sadik will break the Dutch’s long series of invincibility.
